About the Open Garden
Nestled on the eucalypt clad slopes of Victoria’s Mt Macedon, just a 50 minute drive from Melbourne CBD, is a truly remarkable oasis of calm and beauty.
Tieve Tara is one of the world’s most beautiful gardens. Explore over 6 acres of undulating landscape, spectacular lakes, hidden pathways, natural rambling creek and the magnificent rose walk. A garden for all seasons, with glorious spring flowers and rich autumn colours, all set off perfectly against the lush emerald green lawns.
We would love to welcome you to enjoy our hidden treasure.

Group and Photography Bookings
The Gardens of Tieve Tara has become a favourite destination for many tour groups, including:
- Garden groups
- Probus groups
- Artist groups
- Photographers
For large groups arranged in advance, we may be able to offer a personal tour of the garden.
If your group would like a Devonshire Tea or picnic lunches, we can put you in contact with our fabulous local suppliers.
The Gardens are also a popular setting for professional photography shoots – enquiries are welcome.

There is unrestricted parking available outside the gates.
Public Transport
The nearest railway station is in Macedon, on the V/Line Bendigo Line. It takes just over an hour from Southern Cross Station. The station is approximately 5.5km from Tieve Tara. The steepness of the ascent up Mt Macedon makes it unsuitable to walk from the station. Please see our FAQ section below for taxi contact information.

When is Tieve Tara Open?
The garden will be open to visitors on the following dates during spring 2021:
5 November 2021 to 28 November 2021
Wednesday to Friday: 10 – 3.30pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10 – 5pm
There is plenty of space in the garden for visitors to enjoy themselves and find their own special spots. However we are operating in line with current COVID government health guidelines and capacity restrictions apply. To assist us with managing visitor numbers we highly encourage advance booking online. Walk-ins may not be able to gain access if we are at maximum capacity.
Autumn 2022 dates to be confirmed.
Do I need to be fully vaccinated to enter your garden?
Yes. All visitors will be requested to show evidence of their vaccination status at the entrance gate.
How much does it cost to visit Tieve Tara?
Entry is $10 per person and children 12 and under are free. A $2.64 surcharge applies when booking online.
Please note that there are unfenced lakes in the garden so children must be supervised at all times.
Can I transfer my online booking to a different date?
Yes you can transfer your ticket date as long it’s before the date of the event.
- Log in to Eventbrite and click to expand the account menu (top-right of the page). Then select “Tickets”.
- Select your order.
- Click “Transfer”.
- If you see the word “Transfer” next to your ticket, click to see the transfer options. You can only transfer one ticket at a time.
- Note – Free kid’s tickets are unable to be transferred. You will need to cancel these and re-book kids for your new date.
- Revise the transfer summary, then choose “Continue Transfer”.
- The transfer summary should reflect your new event or ticket.
Is there a maximum number of visitors allowed in the garden?
We are operating in line with current COVID government health guidelines. There is plenty of space in the garden for visitors to enjoy themselves and find their own special spots however we highly encourage advance bookings. Walk-ins may not be able to gain entry if we have reached capacity.
What is your child entry policy?
All children must be supervised and accompanied by an adult due to the unfenced water hazards throughout the garden. Child to Adult ratio is 4 to 1.
I would like to bring my group to the garden. How do I make a group booking?
We would be delighted to welcome you and your group to visit our gardens in the Spring or Autumn! To make a booking please email info@gardensoftievetara.com.au, or use the contact section to send us a message. In your message please tell us the day and time that you hope to visit and the number of people in your group. If you would like a tour of the garden this can be arranged as well at an additional price.
Is there a car park at Tieve Tara?
There is no carpark, however there is ample unrestricted street parking right outside the garden gates on Mount Macedon road.
Are there taxi services between Macedon Station and Tieve Tara?
Transport from Macedon Station to Tieve Tara can be arranged by contacting: Gisborne Taxi Service 03 9310 5422 (can provide a maxi taxi or an 11 seater bus) or Gisborne Limo Cabs 03 5428 2444
Can I take professional photos at Tieve Tara?
We would be delighted to share the beauty of the gardens with you and are thrilled that you want to use the Gardens of Tieve Tara as your backdrop. Many people have used the garden to capture stunning debutante photos, wedding photos and portraits. We do charge a professional photography fee so please contact us at info@gardensoftievetara.com.au for further information and let us know the nature of your photography and the day that you are wanting to visit.
Do you host weddings at Tieve Tara?
We are able to host a limited number of wedding ceremonies in the garden. We would also be delighted to provide a stunning backdrop for your wedding photographs. If you are interested in using the garden for your special day, please contact us at info@gardensoftievetara.com.au.
Can I use a drone at Tieve Tara?
Out of respect to our visitors, neighbours and feathered residents we do not allow drones to be used at Tieve Tara.
Can we have a BBQ at Tieve Tara?
We kindly ask that you do not bring any BBQ or related cooking equipment to the gardens. We do however encourage you to bring along a picnic or visit one of our fabulous local cafes for a hot lunch.
Where can I buy food nearby?
Just a short way down the road are two wonderful options:
Mount Macedon Trading Post – 686 Mt Macedon Rd (also has a great selection of picnic supplies)
Mount Macedon Hotel – 694 Mount Macedon Rd

Are there any toilets on the property?
The closest public toilets can be found at Tony Clarke Reserve at 37 Waterfalls Rd and at Centennial Park on the corner of Honour Avenue.
Can I smoke anywhere in the garden?
At Tieve Tara we like to provide all visitors with a clean and serene environment. We therefore ask that you please refrain from smoking anywhere on the property.
Can I bring my dog to Tieve Tara?
Due to Tieve Tara having unfenced lakes on the property and free-roaming geese, ducks and chicken we unfortunately ask you to leave your dogs at home for your visit.
