Jewel of the Mountain

Mt Macedon’s magnificent gardens are collectively referred to as Victoria’s Garden of Eden. The garden at Tieve Tara has been described as the ‘Jewel of the mountain’ by Your Garden magazine.

Nestled on the eucalypt clad slopes of Victoria’s much loved Mt Macedon, an easy 50 minute drive from Melbourne CBD, is a truly remarkable oasis of calm and beauty.

Tieve Tara is a property of great significance, featuring over 6 acres of garden paradise. The garden is a showcase of seasonal beauty, with tranquil lakes and lush sweeping lawns, complementing a kaleidoscope of colour in the spring blooms and autumn foliage.

A combination of large impressive features and quiet areas of intimate beauty, hidden pathways, gentle fountains and small bridges, create a unique and intoxicating quality to this garden. All of this is set against the backdrop of a wonderful mountain vista.

The garden holds immense botanical significance, and is home to a vast collection of mature trees, including some rare species such as Davidia involucrata – the ‘dove tree’, giant Himalayan rhododendrons, and stunning pink flowering dogwoods which line the lower driveway.

The enchanting rose walk culminates in an arbour literally dripping with pink scented roses in the spring and summer. Large undulating lawns sweep past two beautiful lakes, one of which features a wisteria clad Giverny style bridge, downwards to the banks of Turritable Creek. The juxtaposition of the native – the creek, towering Eucalypts and impressive tree ferns – with the carefully designed and landscaped garden, is something quite unique.

Tieve Tara has been widely recognized as a world class garden and has featured in the media on numerous occasions.

Ultimate Privacy and Stunning Garden Outlooks

Like a hidden jewel, the main residence sits discreetly within the spectacular garden setting – a discovery to be made behind the trees and lush foliage, almost completely hidden from view. This luxury, architect designed, two storey residence of stone and brick, offers rooms of grand proportions which seem almost impossible from its unimposing exterior.

The home is sited for ultimate privacy, and enjoyment of the garden and mountain vistas, offering stunning outlooks from every room.

Featuring a spacious conservatory with heated indoor pool, in addition to a lawn tennis court, there is plenty on offer for those seeking health and leisure, without even leaving the grounds.

Upstairs, a large living area with a home-office mezzanine, boasts a triple outlook with stunning tree top and mountain views, and direct access to the garden via a small bridge. The perfect place to work from home.

A further 2 bedroom, self-contained cottage with private garden, opens a range of further possibilities – as guest accommodation, caretakers’/gardener’s cottage, artist’s studio or potential for a supplementary income.

The property has numerous other features including two driveway entrances, multiple garages, workshop and a spring-fed mountain stream frontage.

A private oasis or an occasional open garden –Tieve Tara has served as both for the current owners, who have enjoyed quiet tranquility and family privacy, as well as the joy of sharing their garden with fellow garden lovers.

Located in the heart of Mount Macedon’s Golden Mile, this property offers total peace and privacy, within easy walking distance to a variety of buzzing local businesses.

Just a short stroll away is the ever popular ‘Trading Post’ café and general store, for a tasty breakfast or lunch while catching up on the local chat. The Mount Macedon Hotel is just down the road, and the property is less than a 20 minute walk to the lovely Mount Towrong Vineyard and cellar door. Bush hiking trails are also on the doorstep.

Tieve Tara offers the unique opportunity to live in a botanical wonderland and enjoy all that mountain living has to offer, while being in close proximity to Melbourne’s international airport (40 min drive) and just 50 minutes from Melbourne’s central business district.

Treasured Dove Tree

{

The Davidia involucrata is known as the dove tree or even the handkerchief tree, owing to the elegant pairs of white bracts which sway and flutter in gentle wind. The stunning specimen found at Tieve Tara is greatly admired by visitors in the spring, when its beautiful dove like bracts are on glorious display. An endangered species in its native country, the eldest dove tree in China is currently almost 400 years old and still bearing fruit!
